Our range of wheels are all built to the highest of quality with our Australian engineered design from 1985, they include pressed steel inserts and load ratings from 690kg-1000kg. The suspension components are all derived from 25 years of Historic and Trans Am racing in Australia, with wins at Bathurst, Eastern Creek and many more!
Trans Am Race Engineering is now in the United States with a warehouse located in the heart of Irvine.
The story from
In late 1985 in the heart of Adelaide a reputable company, by the name of Performance Wheels manufactured a wheel under the banner of Superlite. Using current technologies their main objective was to create a variant of the original The Glen wheel used in the American Trans Am Racing Series. The Superlite was born from cast aluminium, with the process being through gravity fed mould casting. Of course this by no means was the right off the bat and many changes have been made throughout the years, with very vigorous testing and being pushed to the limits, the Superlite shone through. Given this amazing response to testing and abuse, it was dubbed one of the best wheels for racing throughout Australia. Ask just about any serious racer in Australia and they will be able to tell you all about the Superlite and how famous it really is.
Flash forward to 2015 and Performance Wheels has decided to close up shop, introduce the team at TARE and they have since purchased all the Superlite moulds built by Performance Wheels. Since the new ownership, we have re-engineered and designed the wheel to create lighter weights and generate strength throughout the wheel to bring out even more longevity and duty to the wheel. With the wheels being gravity cast alloy, something needed to be done to bring a higher quality about. Our in house design team recommended we change over to low pressure cast, which brings out much less porous products and cuts usage of material in half. Thus bringing you the best quality Superlite at the best price. The biggest and most important things to us are reputation, longevity and quality. Nothing less than the best will do.
All Wheels are Gravity cast, out of A365.2 grade aluminium. The wheels are then taken through an ageing process of 60 hours. Once aged to T4 they get taken to heat treatment and treated to T6 specifications. Machining and drilling is done, powder coating next. Then our signature diamond finished edge is machined onto the outside, then clear powder coated.
